If You Can’t Beat Them Join Google
Escaping from the claws of the Google monster, is it really possible and what if turns out you can’t beat them?
How hard you try and no matter how clever your solution, seemingly there is almost no escape from the monstrous Google. From a search in Wikipedia we learn that Google is buying up “half the digital planet and then some”. At the top of the purchase list you will find DoubleClicks.com acquired for over THREE BILLION DOLLAR. A VERY nice paycheck I’d say! Check This Wikipedia Article to find about seventy other companies purchases by Google. You will find many familiar companies that you might not be aware of. They are now all a tiny part of the enormous Google company!
A while ago an article from Google (don’t remember where it is) talked about having an ultimate goal. The goal being to provide a platform that people would never have to leave. The idea is to make sure you only open your browser to go to Google and from there on everything will take place within their “respected” framework. You would never need to leave Google.
Although this might seem a noble idea it also provides shockingly detailed analytics of YOUR behavior. Statistics that can practically read your mind…given on your behavior. For most things online this is already the case. Almost any webmaster will have some sort of tracking installed on their site to track their visitors behavior and guess what? Who provides one of the best platforms for doing so absolutely for free?..Yeah…GOOGLE!
On top of that Google seems to preserve EVERYTHING. So, your website that has been out of the air with every data ever collected by Google is still out there in parts and possible can be completely restructured from the “REAL” data Google has stored some where. A good example are the internet archives where at least the public content of websites many years ago disappeared is still mostly in tact and accessible to the world wide web.
So, if you would ask this “amateur” to make a statement on the introduction line at the top of this article and determine if it is really possible to escape Google and still have a normal life…my answer would be… It is already almost IMPOSSIBLE that it will not severely impact YOUR behavior and can greatly be responsible for your success online should you pursue it in any way. Sadly trying to avoid Google claws completely almost certainly puts “you” on the nearly extinct species list.
People that don’t do business online have a better chance but, nobody is to say that the website owners of the sites you visit don’t use Google tracking. Finding out before visiting the website is also a problem. Specially when you are not internet savvy and technically underlay-ed you have little chance to avoid being tracked. There are of course stealth methods that claim it will leave no trace however, it’s not sure they can know as the “trackers” are mostly aware of these practices and can easily be one step ahead to brutally enforce to break through the stealth shield with some unannounced clever software. Either way, what’s most important is that you should be aware that there’s no such thing as guarantees when it comes to being stealthy (without claiming that it is a useless strategy by the way).
Which brings the story to the introduction title,
“If You Can’t Beat Them, Join Google”
- Paul Hendrix
…and maybe also..
“Keep Your Friends Close and Your Enemies Closer”
- The Godfather
Proposing to use as much Google as you can, while at the same time being aware of their incredible market share, to make use of it. Seemingly Google get’s all excited when they are being used as service and all sorts of “benefits” rise from it. The website analytics and Adwords features offered are proof of it. In both cases Google provides you with a little of the same power they have and give you insight into visitor behavior beyond most peoples scoop. “Not fighting Google means you share power”!
